Ich habe es erst für einen Aprilscherz gehalten. Aber es ist noch Januar. Also: Es stimmt. Gibson hat Mesa Boogie gekauft. Hier erfährst du, was sich nun ändert und was nicht.
Gibson kauft Mesa Boogie
Mein Herz weiß noch nicht so recht, ob es lachen oder weinen soll, wenn es daran denkt, dass Mesa Boogie nun zu den Gibson Brands gehört. Aber dann schaltet sich mein Verstand ein und meint: „Hey, Gibson macht in letzter Zeit sehr viel richtig. Und hatte auch mal coole Amps. Und überhaupt: Mesa Boogie wird unter neuem Schirmherren wohl kaum anfangen, schlechtere Amps zu bauen. Oder?“
Mesa Boogie wurde vor etwas mehr als 50 Jahren von Randall Smith gegründet und im Rock und Metal ist die Marke auf etlichen Bühnen zu sehen. Zu Recht. Es sind tolle Amps. Auch, wenn sie hierzulande etwas teuer sind. Und dieser ominöse Randall Smith hört auch nicht auf, sondern wird direkt Master Designer der Mesa Boogie Amps bei Gibson bleiben.

Das wird anders – und das nicht
Hand aufs Herz: Es ändert sich erst einmal für Fans von Gibson und Mesa Boogie nichts. Randall Smith wird weiter Amps unter dem Label Mesa Boogie entwickeln. Röhrenamps, versteht sich. Aber er wird vermutlich (sehr sicher) auch Amps für/von Gibson im Custom Shop entwickeln. Früher hatte die Marke ja ein paar Amps im Angebot.
Randy Smith meint selbst dazu:

Ich denke, für Gibson war das ein sehr kluger Schachzug. Jetzt gibt es richtig gute Amps im eigenen Kader. Und auch Mesa Boogie wird damit sicher eine solide Finanzierung für neue Produkte bekommen. Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass die Belegschaft nicht wie bei anderen Firmenübernahmen komplett auf die Straße gesetzt wird. Dafür ist Gibson aber (zumindest mir) nicht bekannt.
